Sensei Barb Lamble is the Head Instructor in Elora, a 4th degree black belt with a Level II CNGK Instructor’s Certificate. She began training in 1998 when her fiancé, Mike Robertson, asked her to join his first karate class in Elmira. She immediately noticed improvement in her energy and fitness levels, so decided to pursue her training to the black belt level.
She has had the privilege of receiving personal instruction from Kyoshi J Purdy, founder of Gorge Karate Dojo and Head Instructor of Canadian Naha-te Goju Karate. In 2012, she was asked to take over leadership of CNGK karate instruction in her home town of Elora and is now Head Instructor of all karate programs offered in the Definition Fitness location.
Sensei Barb's experience teaching musical theory and piano to young children inspired her to develop a specialized Kinder Karate program for young children. She is a regular teacher of LiveFit programs for high school physical education and offers Women's Self Defence instruction to local community groups. Sensei Barb has a creative and flexible approach to students of all ages. She is an inspiration to many of her young students and encourages them to reach their highest potential.
Congratulations to all Elora students who passed to their next level in June 2013!
Elora Karate Dojo - June 2013
2013 Self Defence
Sensei Barb opened with some comments about her own experience. When she started training 15 years ago, there were only a handful of women who trained in martial arts. Today, almost half of CNGK members are women, with 2 CNGK dojos owned and operated by female instructors.
Next, members of the group performed kata Sanchin, Geck Sai Ichi and Seiunchin. A very pregnant Sensei Christina Graf wowed the audience with a kobudo kata Matsu Higa no Sai, showing how women can maintain a healthy and active lifestyle throughout all phases of life.
Brown Belts Mirjana and Amanda demonstrated the application of kata (bunaki) and the principles of self defence. The audience enjoyed watching the series of takedowns and throws! Showing how striking drills can produce power, Sensei Elfie and Cynthia performed a variety of hand and foot techniques on the shield, culminating with some board breaking. Sensei Barb concluded the performance with kata Seipai.
Thanks to the participants of our first women-only demo team! This showed great co-operation between the Waterloo-Wellington CNGK dojos and was a lot of fun!
