Thank-you for Support of Children's Wish Fund

November 27, 2018

The Guelph Open Shiai, in support of the Children's Wish Fund, took place at Centennial C.V.I. (Guelph, ON) on Saturday, November 17th, 2018.  Participant came from various cities across Southern Ontario and many karate styles and dojos were represented.  Karate practitioners were able to celebrate the Martial Arts in a fun and safe environment where they were able to also support a 'broader picture' in contributing to the charitable organization, Children's Wish Fund of Guelph.

The Guelph Open also hosted a pre-tournament sparring seminar in which Sensei Blair Purdy,(Purdy Center for the Arts), provided opportunity for karateka to practice techniques for kumite and learn new combinations.  Over one hundred students participated in this part of the Shiai day and many commented on how it provided opportunity to effectively prepare the mind for competition, "take the edge of pre-tournament nerves", and gave opportunity to meet new karate friends.  Special thanks to Sensei Blair for the excellent kumite seminar.

The opening ceremonies this year included a presentation by Centennial C.V.I. Marching Corp, singing of "Oh Canada" by Centennial's music director and music students, and tribute to Kyoshi J Purdy, founder and director of C.N.G.K.

Close to 200 participants were able to compete with kata, kobudo, and kumite.  Guests enjoyed refreshments and were also able to support the Children's Wish Fund by participating in this year's silent auction.  Special thanks to all those who generously contributed to this event.

Tri-City Training and Guelph Open Karate Shiai Event Staff would like to thank all of our competitors, volunteers, karate families, and anyone who participated in the event...for all your contributions! We are proud of ALL competitors for your efforts and display of fine character. Special thanks to our incredible volunteers and black belts for your hard work - we could not have done this without you! Thank-you to CCVI students and staff (Martial Arts class and Music Department) for your contributions. And thank-you to everyone for your support of the Guelph Children's WIsh Fund. It is so wonderful to be a part of such an incredible community of people. Thank-you
